NOC letter for a visa from Pakistan
When an employer or institute letter is asked for, what it should say and what officers check in it.
What an NOC is
A No Objection Certificate (NOC) is a letter from your employer or institute saying you are allowed to travel and that you will return to your job or studies. Embassies ask for it, or for an equivalent employment letter, to confirm your ties to Pakistan.
What the letter should contain
- Your details: full name as on the passport, CNIC number, designation and joining date
- Travel purpose and dates: country, approximate dates and the approved leave period
- Return statement: that you will resume duty after the trip
- Company details: letterhead, stamp, signature and a contact number or email
Common mistakes
- Name or designation that does not match the salary slips or bank statement
- Leave dates that do not match the trip dates in the application
- A letter with no stamp, no signature or no contact details
- Unsigned copies sent instead of the original
Business owners and students
If you run a business, officers usually look for registration documents, a tax number and recent business bank statements instead of an employer NOC. Students normally provide a letter from the institute with enrolment and leave details. Your exact checklist depends on the country, so see the country guide you are applying for.
FAQs
Is an NOC compulsory for every visa?
No. It depends on the embassy and your profile. Many checklists ask for an employment letter or NOC for salaried applicants; the country page lists what applies.
Can a self-employed person get an NOC?
A self-employed applicant normally shows business registration and tax documents instead. We tell you what the embassy expects for your case.
Does an NOC mean the visa will be approved?
No. It is one supporting document. The embassy makes the final decision.
